Lakes of the South Urals
There are 3170 lakes in an area of 2125sq km in the territory of Chelyabinsk region. Most of the lakes are located in the drainage- basin of the Tobol River, a much smaller number are in the Ural River and Kama basins.
Fresh lakes with high transparency are widespread in the mountain-forest zone and are of federal importance. In the forest and steppe zones, the mineral content of lake water is much higher.
Since there are so many and such different bodies of water in the Chelyabinsk region, a considerable number of them at different times have acquired the status of specially protected natural areas, and are of regional importance.
Lake Argazi (Argazinskoe Reservoir)

Atlyanskaya floodplain
Atlyanskaya floodplain is located near the city of Miass, upstream from the river Syrostan .
Up the river Atlyan the settlements of Verkhny Atlyan and Nizhny Atlyan are located. The Waters of Syrostan and Atlyan rivers flow into Polikarpovsky pond.
Lake Bannoe(Bath)
(Yaktykul, Svetloe are its other names) is located in the picturesque South Urals, at the junction of the territories of Bashkortostan and Chelyabinsk region, 40km from the city of Magnitogorsk.
Lakes Bolshoye(Big) and Maloye(Small) Miassovo
Lakes Bolshoye and Maloye Miassovo are located in the area of the unique Ilmen Zapovednik( Scientific Nature Reserve) in the northern part of Chelyabinsk region.
Lake Bolshoy(Big) Kisegach
Lake Bolshoy(Big) Kisegach is located in Chebarkulsky district of Chelyabinsk region. The west shore of the lake is at the base of Ilmen range, from which many creeks flow into the Bolshoy Kisegach

Lake Elanchik
Lake Elanchik is the fifth best in the Chelyabinsk region with respect to water purity. It is located about 10km from the town of Chebarkul, 100km from Chelyabinsk. It is a beautiful lake with very clear water.
Lake Elovoe (Fir)
It is one of the many equally beautiful lakes located between Miass and Chebarkul. The lake is of tectonic origin.
Lake Zyuratkul
Lake Zyuratkul is the highest and "freshest" lake in the Urals. The water here is so pure that you can drink right from the lake. Zyuratkul is located in Satkinsky district of Chelyabinsk region.

Lake Inyshko
Lake Inyshko is north of and very close to Lake Turgoyak . The distance between them is less than 300m at the narrowest point. Inyshko is a very small lake of oval shape.
Lake Peschannoe(Sandy)
Small picturesque Lake Peschannoe is located not far from the city of Miass.
The shores of the lake are not steep and partially swampy. Ducks build their nests, muskrats are found in the reeds of the lake.
Lake Podbornoe
Lake Podbornoe is located in Uvelsky district of Chelyabinsk region, near the village of Homutinino. A group of the lakes with similar water properties is situated here, it is called Homutininskaya.
Lake Sladkoe(Sweet)
Sladkoe(Sweet) Lake is located in the north-east of Oktyabrsky district of Chelyabinsk region, 4 kilometers far from the village of Kocherdyk, towards the village of Gorelov. The lake is 180km far from Chelyabinsk.
Lake Solyonoe(Salt)
Lake Solyonoe is located in Oktyabrsky district of Chelyabinsk region. Lake Solyonoe is situated in 20km south-east of the village of Oktyabrskoye. The lake is mall and round.

Turgoyak is a special lake for the Ilmensky Region, it created during the completion of tectonic processes in the Ural mountains, as a result of Earth's crust contracting.
St.Vera Island
The only large island – St.Vera Island practically abuts the western shore of Turgoyak.
